“ANNA LIVIA”: GODDESS OF THE RIVER LIFFEY!
THE LIFFEY: Fifty-mile long river of Eastern Ireland rising in Co Wicklow flowing through Kildare and emptying into the Irish sea in Dublin harbour.
According to Irish mythology the 14 most important rivers of Ireland are personalized by Gods with Anna Livia of the River Liffey being the only woman.
James Joyce´s personification of the river in “Finnegans Wake” as Anna Livia or Anna Livia Plurabelle is based on the translation from Gaelic language “abhna life” (The River Liffey).
This image of Anna Livia has been especially created for our XX anniversary by Hammond Journeaux, New Zealand born artist and resident in Ballydehob (West Cork, Ireland).
